Sometimes it’s about who you know, not what you know
People do not discuss this phrase nearly as much as they should, when talking about corporate life. Networking is one of the most important things we can do no matter what industry we are in. There is an direct connection between us putting ourselves out there and more opportunities becoming available. Knowing the right person could make all the difference in the world, depending on how you choose to utilize and grow your connections.
Uncomfortable is normal, when it reaching our goals
While networking is natural step needed to for growth, it does not mean networking comes naturally to anyone. If you are anything like me , talking to others can feel awkward and uncomfortable. This weekend, I had the opportunity to go to my first networking event. In the beginning I was a nervous wreck, but as I kept talking to all sorts of different people and getting to know them. It became easier to navigate through and put myself out there.

5 Tips for Networking:
- Schedule networking events for your particular industry to practice.
- Ask someone you look up to in your industry for places and groups to join (if you are close enough, ark to attend said event with them)
- Business Cards – make sure to have business cards when attending (it makes things a lot easier)
- Approach people introduce yourself and ask about what they do as well (you never know who you might meet or what their expertise is)
- Never underestimate anyone you come across(you never know where they may be in the few years)
- Exchange contact information and keep in contact periodically.
The above tips will help you to start finding ways to start on your networking journey. If I did not come out of my shell and put myself out there I would not have the opportunities I have today. In order to find our perfect mix, we have to be willing to risk embarrassing yourself.
